It’s a Faster, More Exciting Ride
As an ENA customer, you can get on the private Internet2 superspeedway anytime you like
You may have heard of Internet2
, the foremost advanced networking consortium in the U.S. At 100 gigabits per second (100 Gbps), this private network is much more powerful than the public, “commodity” Internet and open only to educators and researchers. But did you know that every ENA-connected school and library is automatically connected to Internet2 and already has access to its vast speed and performance?
What is Internet2?
Internet2 is a separate physical network from the public Internet that you use every day. Started in 1996 as a consortium of 34 universities to ensure higher levels of bandwidth and quality of service unavailable on the public Internet, Internet2 is now comprised of more than 200 U.S. universities in cooperation with 70 leading corporations, 45 government agencies, laboratories and other institutions of higher learning, as well as over 50 international partner organizations.
The public Internet network that you use every day is open to everyone, but the Internet2 network is a private network that exists to support and enhance research, education and the development of revolutionary Internet technologies. ENA is a member of Internet2 and our network is connected to the Internet2 network, allowing us to bring this new technology resource to your schools.
