DNS Blackhole services are now included as part of your ENA network solution
Security and safety are critical to your schools’ needs, and ENA is always working to provide the most secure, reliable network solutions available. ENA’s DNS Blackhole service is designed to work in conjunction with your district’s existing content filtering services, helping to increase the efficiency of your network traffic. With DNS Blackhole, your district retains all the benefits of the Internet while reducing the risk of users accessing offensive, inappropriate and possibly illegal material.

The DNS Blackhole service increases security in your schools by adding an extra layer of prevention against the accessibility of blocked sites. For example, ENA filters currently block the site www.proxy.com, a site that helps people get around filtering. But if a user types in https://kproxy.com, the filters don’t block the site. ENA’s DNS Blackhole service would allow schools to block all possible URL name routes to the kproxy.com site whether it is www.kproxy.com, letmein.kproxy.com or proxy.kproxy.com. It also works across all protocols
such as HTTP, HTTPS, FTP and SMTP.

In addition to added security, districts will also benefit from enhanced network reliability. ENA hosts shared DNS servers at every SuperPOP, recognizing many of the most common URL mistakes and automatically redirecting users to a correct URL. Bandwidth is optimized for daily educational use—helping you to eliminate potential bottlenecks at critical times throughout the day.

Solution Benefits

  • Geographically separate and redundant DNS servers increase network reliability
  • Requests are automatically redirected to the closest available DNS server, typically in the same platform the customer’s router connects to, thereby increasing network efficiency and performance
  • Shared access, meaning that answers for sites and services that schools typically use are already cached for rapid resolution (approximately 1 millisecond)
  • Thousands of domains are listed to help block access to HTTPS proxy, bypass or other malicious sites
  • Access to domains via all Internet protocols are blocked for enhanced security
